ResponderEliminarWe got the news this morning, and it’s so extremely sad, about the sudden passing of my brother and dear friend, Phil Campbell.
He was the funniest guy I have ever known and the best rock guitar player I have ever played with. His vibe and feel for rock music were outstanding. We wrote 12 studio albums together, and he never stopped surprising me with his extreme talent. Most of all, I will miss hanging out with the nicest guy you could ever meet.
My family and I send our thoughts to Phil’s family. I truly wish them all the best for the future, and I will be right here if they ever need anything.
Sleep well, my friend and rock soldier. Say hi to Lemmy, Würzel, Filthy and Eddie. I am sure you’ll be a crazy gang hanging out together again!

ResponderEliminarAs I’m sure many of you have seen looking on mine this morning the world lost another Rock and Roll legend today.
Phil Campbell was who I always told everyone was my “Favorite rock star”. There was just something about him that made every spot he walked in brighter.
There were many times on the road where I would run into Phil at concerts or pubs. Many times I would go see Motörhead live when they were in town. There were also many festivals I’ve performed with Savatage that had Motörhead on the bill the same day as well.
2001 Savatage played the Mind Over Matter Festival in Austria right before Motörhead. I was able to see the Motörhead band watching side stage right most of the show. When we finished I was asked to come into the Motörhead dressing room. Savatage opened for Motörhead on the Power of the Night tour in 1985. Phil and Lemmy told me that they watched our show and they thought the spirit of Criss Oliva lived in my guitar playing. They also told me only 11 people had ever played onstage with Motörhead in the over 25 years the band had been together at that time. They asked me to be number 12. So we quickly went over “Killed by death” and I waited side stage as they played. It was incredibly loud, incredible fun and so surreal but I played onstage with Motörhead.
Phil was so kind and so funny. A real life cartoon character. We spoke a lot online and had often talked about getting together to write music.
I had the chance to play onstage with him again at Wacken at Doros 40th Anniversary concert. In my story I put 2024 it was actually 2023!
Mikkey Dee and Phil played Ace of Spades and Love me forever. I remember Phil telling me to play the leads. He said “I haven’t played them in a while I’m sure you will do them better than me.” I loved seeing the smile on his face as he watched and listened to me onstage.
The second photo here is from when I was actually backstage at “Fields of Rock” on my Faces solo tour & was hanging out with Phil. Slash was there with Velvet Revolver & he came to Phil for a photo. With us was Jay Reynolds’s from Metal Church. My solo band and Metal Church had shared a tour bus at the time.

He was Motörhead's guitarist for 31 years (the longest serving member aside from Lemmy) having joined in 1984. After Lemmy’s passing, he was blessed to form Phil Campbell and The Bastard Sons with his sons Todd, Dane and Tyla, which recorded and toured together for years.
Phil was a wonderful guitarist, writer, performer, and musician who had Motörhead in his veins. He always led with his gift of guitar, and carried a great sense of humour, but most of all, Phil led with his heart. You could not be around him without a chuckle or twenty, because quite simply, Phil loved life and lived it with great joy.
There will be plenty of time for us to share stories -tales of Campbell glory- and some damn good jokes together; for now, please send love and positive energy to Gaynor and the boys while affording them time, space, and privacy.
Much love and RIP Phil. The world has just lost an enormous beam of light, and we are devastated.

One of my favorite memories from my early days in L.A. was jamming with him at Happenin’ Harry’s weekly jam at the Cat Club on the Sunset Strip in 2008, right after I had moved there. Back then, I could never have imagined that 16 year later I’d be touring with Phil and his sons when they opened on ACCEPT’s 2024 European tour.
Phil was one of the nicest most down-to-earth people in the rock ’n’ roll circus, despite being a true legend. I was genuinely shocked to hear of his passing this morning.

This is one of the guys that when I came onto the scene and Motörhead opened for Judas Priest in LA (my first time there), he befriended me and treated me like one of them. ResponderEliminarMy first concert I begged my parents to let me go to was Official Motörhead in Bristol in October 2005. I still wear the merch I bought that day, and I distinctly remember standing in front of Phil Campbell and letting the speakers rattle through me, thinking “this is the best feeling in the world”. Many years later, my band Fury got the chance to tour with Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons through Europe, and was so lucky to call him and his badass family my friends. So we didn’t know one another for many years, but I’ll always remember his kindness and support for others and fantastic sense of humour. I’m sure I’ll still hear more and more stories of pranks and general wild touring activities from others I meet in this world of rock n’ roll. I’ll miss his recommendations on where I can find a good pint of cider wherever I am in the world, and I won’t forget those dozens and dozens of times I watched Phil play. Another legend who had utmost respect for his fans and never wanted to stop. Thank you Phil, rest easy 🙏💔🤘
